Democrats celebrate sweeping victories<\/em><\/p>\n

Washington, DC [US]: Former US President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to comment on the Republican Party\u2019s recent electoral setbacks. Trump claimed that two major factors led to the GOP\u2019s poor performance \u2014 his absence from the ballot and the ongoing government shutdown.<\/p>\n

According to Trump, several pollsters concur that these were the \u201cdecisive reasons\u201d behind the Republican losses.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2018TRUMP WASN\u2019T ON THE BALLOT, AND SHUTDOWN, WERE THE TWO REASONS THAT REPUBLICANS LOST ELECTIONS TONIGHT,\u2019 according to Pollsters,\u201d he wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

The remarks came after a string of victories for the Democratic Party, highlighted by Zohran Mamdani\u2019s historic win in the New York City mayoral race. Mamdani, 34, a Democratic socialist, made history as the city\u2019s youngest and first Muslim mayor, defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo.<\/p>\n

With more than two million voters participating, the New York City mayoral election recorded one of the highest turnouts in recent years. Mamdani\u2019s win is being hailed as a major shift in the city\u2019s political landscape and a testament to the Democrats\u2019 growing influence.<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s post also echoed his previous criticisms of election results unfavorable to Republicans. Prior to the New York race, he had warned of potential cuts in federal funding if Mamdani were to win, labelling him a \u201cCommunist lunatic\u201d and a \u201cdisaster waiting to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Democrats scored victories in key contests across the country, including gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, further solidifying their political momentum. The White House, meanwhile, emphasized on X (formerly Twitter) that Trump remains the nation\u2019s president, underscoring continuity amid the electoral outcomes.<\/p>\n

During his victory speech, Mamdani expressed gratitude to his supporters and called the result a triumph for grassroots politics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe future is in our hands. My friends, we have toppled a political dynasty,\u201d he said, before wishing Cuomo \u201cthe best in private life.\u201d
\n\u201cLet tonight be the last time I utter his name, as we abandon a politics that answers to the few. Tonight, you have delivered a mandate for change \u2014 for a city we can all afford.\u201d<\/p>\n

Concluding his address, Mamdani declared, \u201cOn January 1, I will be sworn in as mayor of New York City.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his concession speech, Cuomo acknowledged the historic voter turnout and congratulated Mamdani. Urging unity, he said:<\/p>\n
