{"id":33419,"date":"2025-10-19T07:27:40","date_gmt":"2025-10-19T10:57:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bnnweb.com\/?p=1753"},"modified":"2025-10-19T07:27:40","modified_gmt":"2025-10-19T10:57:40","slug":"south-korea-tightens-cybersecurity-after-detecting-possible-govt-hacking-attempts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mediapbn.com\/?p=33419","title":{"rendered":"South Korea tightens cybersecurity after detecting possible Govt hacking attempts"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>Seoul (South Korea), October 19, 2025: South Korea\u2019s Ministry of the Interior and Safety has tightened cybersecurity protocols across government networks after detecting possible signs of hacking into the state\u2019s online administrative systems, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The ministry said the alert followed reports from Phrack, a cybersecurity publication, which indicated that in August several South Korean government agencies and major corporations had been targeted by hackers. The North Korean group Kimsuky is suspected of being behind the attempted breaches.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Authorities discovered that in mid-July, an external computer had accessed the government\u2019s Onnara system \u2014 an online platform used for managing official documents and internal operations \u2014 through the Government Virtual Private Network (G-VPN), as identified by the National Intelligence Service (NIS).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In response, the ministry introduced stricter login authentication procedures for all officials accessing the system remotely. It also reviewed and revoked potentially compromised Government Public Key Infrastructure (GPKI) certificates used by public employees for authentication.
