The move is part of a heightened enforcement campaign against vessels violating American sanctions on Caracas’s oil sector.

Key Details of the Seizures:

The two targeted vessels are the ‘Bella 1’ (now renamed ‘Marinera’) and the ‘Sofia’.

Both were intercepted and seized for operating in violation of U.S. sanctions, which prohibit the trade and transport of Venezuelan oil by designated ships and entities.

Context & U.S. Stance

The Trump administration stated that these actions are part of an intensified effort to “blockade” and halt the illegal oil trade from Venezuela under the existing sanctions regime. Simultaneously, officials noted a “selective” easing of restrictions in some cases to allow for the transport and sale of Venezuelan crude. This calibrated approach aims to prevent revenue from reaching the government of President Nicolás Maduro while still permitting oil to reach global markets under controlled circumstances.

Broader Implications

This seizure underscores the ongoing economic pressure campaign by Washington against the Maduro government. The U.S. has implemented a series of sanctions targeting Venezuela’s vital oil industry, aiming to curb its primary source of foreign revenue. Enforcement actions like these demonstrate the tangible reach of these sanctions in international waters.

 United States Seizes Two Tankers Linked to Venezuela in Sanctions Enforcement Action BNN Web Staff WASHINGTON, 8 Jan 2026 —

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

229
3143,3185,3144,1623,1776,3362,2742,1780,473,2221,3150,3364,3352,3045,2744,3046,3365,3192,3153,1781
post-33722","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-world-news","tag-chevron-venezuela-oil","tag-china-supports-venezuela","tag-china-venezuelan-oil-imports","tag-philippines-with-the-united-states-and-japan","tag-political-repression-venezuela","tag-socialism-venezuela","tag-u-s-venezuela-relations","tag-u-s-venezuela-tensions","tag-united-states","tag-united-states-ukraine-talks","tag-us-blockade-venezuela","tag-us-military-venezuela","tag-us-venezuela-relations","tag-us-venezuela-tensions","tag-venezuela","tag-venezuela-crisis","tag-venezuela-oil","tag-venezuela-oil-blockade","tag-venezuela-oil-crisis","tag-venezuela-political-crisis
"1536x1536":false,"2048x2048":false
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/18e12f979c7dbcc2096868fc531de295a11443c392b4bb6e60ce343131707eaa?s=96&d=mm&r=g
 United States Seizes Two Tankers Linked to Venezuela in Sanctions Enforcement Action BNN Web Staff WASHINGTON, 8 Jan 2026 —
World News
https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/18e12f979c7dbcc2096868fc531de295a11443c392b4bb6e60ce343131707eaa?s=96&d=mm&r=g
World News

<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.8 -
