Washington [US], May 5, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump on Monday made a light-hearted remark suggesting he could remain in office for another two terms, joking that he may leave the White House only after \u201ceight or nine years from now\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a White House Small Business Summit, Trump used the comment while referring to tax-cut provisions for businesses, prompting laughter from attendees.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I get out of office in, let\u2019s say, eight or nine years from now, I\u2019ll be able to use it. I\u2019ll be able to use it myself,\u201d Trump said, drawing amusement and applause from business leaders present at the event.<\/p>\n
His remark comes despite constitutional limits under the Twenty-Second Amendment of the US Constitution, which restricts any president from being elected more than twice. Trump is currently serving his second term in office.<\/p>\n
While the comment appeared humorous, Trump has in recent years repeatedly sparked political discussion by suggesting the possibility of extending his time in the presidency beyond conventional limits.<\/p>\n
In a previous interview in 2025, he had said he was \u201cnot joking\u201d when discussing the idea of serving longer, while also noting that it was still early in his administration.<\/p>\n
During Monday\u2019s event, Trump also shifted focus to economic performance and national security, linking domestic growth with his administration\u2019s foreign policy stance.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re truly making America great again. We\u2019re doing record, record business,\u201d he said, while reiterating his position that Iran must be prevented from acquiring nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
The president further claimed US military strength in the region remains dominant, while criticising Iran\u2019s defence capabilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no anti-aircraft equipment, they have no radar, they have no nothing,\u201d he said, adding that Iran\u2019s strategic position had been significantly weakened.<\/p>\n
