Washington DC (US), August 30, 2026, BNN Web Staff: The United States has announced humanitarian assistance worth more than USD 3.6 million for Nepal as the Himalayan nation continues to battle the devastating impact of recent floods and flash floods.

The US State Department said the assistance will include emergency food support for up to 10,000 flood-affected households, with supplies expected to cover as much as three months of immediate needs.

In a statement on X, the State Department said the United States was standing with the people of Nepal during the ongoing disaster. It also highlighted the safety of American citizens in the affected region, saying US embassies in Nepal and China were coordinating efforts to assist Americans and support disaster relief operations.

Meanwhile, Nepal has issued a fresh safety alert following reports of a sudden rise in the sound and water flow of the Bhote Koshi River.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) urged residents living downstream, as well as rescue and relief teams, to remain highly cautious and closely monitor the situation.

The latest warning covers several downstream areas that were badly affected by the catastrophic flash floods of August 26. People living near the Rasuwa riverbank, including communities close to the Nepal-China border, have been advised to keep a close watch on river levels.

Authorities in Nuwakot and Dhading have also been placed on alert, with emergency services and local administrative units instructed to remain prepared for any further deterioration.

Death Toll Rises to 675

The death toll from the Rasuwa-Bhote Koshi flash floods has climbed to 675, according to the latest figures released by the NDRRMA. Rescue teams continue to search affected areas and recover bodies and human remains from several downstream districts.

As of 6:30 pm, 2,418 people were still reported missing or out of contact following the disaster.

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah said the government remains on high alert and will continue operating at full capacity until all flood-affected citizens are rescued, provided assistance and supported in rehabilitation.

The ongoing rescue effort has involved extensive air and ground operations. More than 7,500 people have been evacuated from affected areas, including 279 workers stranded at hydroelectric project sites.

Around 18,708 personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been deployed for rescue and relief operations. Authorities are also using 16 military and private helicopters, which have so far carried out 236 rescue missions.
