Washington DC (US), September 8, 2026, BNN Web Staff: US President Donald Trump has predicted a sharp decline in oil and petrol prices if the United States emerges victorious from its ongoing conflict with Iran, saying fuel prices could eventually fall below USD 2 per gallon.<\/p>\n
In a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump linked the anticipated fall in energy prices to the outcome of the conflict, suggesting that oil markets would stabilise rapidly after the fighting ends.<\/p>\n
Trump said oil prices would \u201cdrop precipitously\u201d after a US victory, adding that petrol prices could first reach around USD 3 a gallon before eventually falling below USD 2.<\/p>\n
He also reiterated his position that Iran must not be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, saying the issue would be resolved quickly.<\/p>\n
The remarks came amid escalating rhetoric between Washington and Tehran over energy infrastructure and military targets.<\/p>\n
Iran Warns US Against Strikes on Energy Assets<\/p>\n
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned the United States against attacking Iranian oil and gas facilities, saying any such action would trigger retaliation against American interests.<\/p>\n
Ghalibaf said Iran’s oil and gas production network was extensive and exposed, while warning that US oil and gas companies operating in the region could also face consequences.<\/p>\n
His comments followed remarks by US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who claimed that Iran’s oil tanker fleet was vulnerable and warned that Iranian vessels could be targeted if Iran attacked US ships.<\/p>\n
Hegseth said US naval and air forces could strike Iranian oil tankers across areas under the responsibility of US Central Command and US Pacific Command.<\/p>\n
CENTCOM Claims Strikes on Iranian Tankers<\/p>\n
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) also released footage showing strikes on oil tankers and alleged that three Iranian crude oil tankers were linked to a multibillion-dollar network used to finance Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its regional allies.<\/p>\n
CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper warned that Washington would impose greater economic costs if Iranian forces attacked US ships.<\/p>\n
Cooper said US forces would continue to defend American personnel and could target Iran’s oil fleet if deemed necessary.<\/p>\n
