Kathmandu (Nepal), September 6, 2026, BNN Web Staff: The death toll from devastating floods and landslides across Nepal has risen to 1,341, according to the latest figures released by the Nepal Police, as rescue teams continue operations in several badly affected areas.

The casualty figures have fluctuated during the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts. Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) had reported 1,331 deaths in its 6 PM update on Saturday, compared with 1,344 in its noon bulletin.

Rescue teams have also managed to evacuate people trapped in difficult locations. A Chinese national was rescued from an audit tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 1 Hydropower Project, while a 64-year-old woman was rescued from Betrawati in Nuwakot.

India-Nepal teams continue tunnel rescue operation

Indian rescue personnel are working alongside the Nepal Army inside the Chilime Tunnel, where heavy debris, water and mud have hampered access to the deeper sections.

The Indian Embassy in Nepal said the joint teams were continuing their efforts despite challenging conditions.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava said rescue personnel were clearing large quantities of debris, water and mud from the tunnel, with the material in some interior sections reaching close to the roof.

The teams are also working to construct an access road from nearby Syafrubesi to the tunnel entrance. According to the Ambassador, difficult terrain and the narrow valley have limited the use of heavy helicopters, making road access important for bringing excavators to the site.

India sends 95 tonnes of relief material

India has stepped up humanitarian assistance to Nepal following the catastrophic flooding.

The Ministry of External Affairs said New Delhi has so far sent around 95 tonnes of relief material through seven aircraft, along with 54 specialised personnel involved in rescue, forensic and medical operations.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India would continue providing assistance based on the requirements communicated by the Nepalese government.

Additional supplies, including forensic kits, Bailey bridges and other requested materials, are expected to be sent in the coming days.

The Indian deployment includes 30 tunnel rescue experts, 19 forensic experts and a five-member medical team. Indian teams are working in coordination with Nepalese authorities as search, rescue and relief operations continue.
