Washington DC (US):

US President Donald Trump on Monday warned he could declare a national emergency in Washington DC if city authorities stop cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), claiming he “won’t allow crime to return.”

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump highlighted what he described as progress in the city under federal intervention. The Federal Government, under my leadership, has addressed the complete criminal chaos in Washington, D.C., our Nation’s Capital. In just a few weeks, the city has gone from one of the most dangerous and murder-ridden cities in the US to one of the safest,” he wrote.

Trump added that the city was now thriving, with bustling restaurants, stores, and businesses, noting “for the first time in decades, virtually no crime. It has been a beautiful thing to watch.”

The President sharply criticized Mayor Muriel Bowser, accusing her of yielding to “Radical Left Democrats.” He claimed that Bowser had announced that the Metropolitan Police Department would cease cooperation with ICE in relocating dangerous illegal immigrants, warning that such a move could reverse recent safety gains.

“If I allowed this to happen, crime would come roaring back. To the people and businesses of Washington, D.C., don’t worry, I am with you, and won’t allow this to happen,” Trump asserted. He also threatened federal escalation: “I’ll call a National Emergency and Federalize, if necessary. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Earlier, Mayor Bowser had credited Trump’s federal law enforcement expansion with helping reduce crime in the city. She had issued an order instructing local agencies to coordinate with federal authorities.
