SAD to screen ‘Satluj’ movie across Punjab, announces Sukhbir Badal
Says Film Must Reach Every Village and Future Generations
Chandigarh, July 8, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Tuesday announced that the party will organise screenings of the film “Satluj”, based on the life and sacrifice of human rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra, across villages and towns in Punjab.
In a post shared on social media, Badal said the objective is to ensure that the younger generation learns about what he described as the atrocities committed against Sikhs and the sacrifices made by Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra and thousands of innocent Sikh youths during the Congress regime.
“The Shiromani Akali Dal will ensure that Satluj is screened in every village and every corner of Punjab so that our children and future generations become aware of the injustices and oppression faced by the Sikh community,” he said.
Badal described the film as a portrayal of a painful chapter in Sikh history, referring to events including Operation Blue Star, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, and the alleged fake police encounters in Punjab during the militancy period.
He alleged that even today, efforts are being made to prevent people from learning about that period through films such as Satluj.
The SAD chief asserted that his party would not allow what he termed as attempts to suppress this part of history and would continue to take the film to people across the state through public screenings.
