Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), August 12, 2025 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Himachal Pradesh, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall from Tuesday until late Thursday night.

On Tuesday, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, Kangra, and Mandi districts are under the orange alert, while Shimla and Solan have been placed under a yellow alert. On Wednesday, the orange alert will cover Bilaspur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur districts, with yellow alerts in place for other areas.

Senior IMD Scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said the monsoon remains active, leading to rising water levels in rivers and streams.  He urged residents to avoid venturing near water bodies and warned of very low visibility in Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur.

In the past 24 hours, light to moderate rain fell across the state, with heavy downpours in parts of Kangra, Mandi, Bilaspur, and Hamirpur. Kangra recorded the highest rainfall at 180 mm, followed by Guler (161 mm).

The IMD predicts that rainfall will continue from August 12 to 15, peaking between late Wednesday and Thursday night. Yellow alerts will remain for Mandi, Bilaspur, Shimla, and Sirmaur on Wednesday and Thursday, while Friday will see isolated showers. Dry weather is expected over the weekend.
