U.S revokes over 6,000 student visas amid immigration crackdown

Washington DC (US): Since January 2025, the U.S. State Department has cancelled more than 6,000 student visas under the Trump administration’s intensified drive against immigration violations.
A State Department spokesperson said that most cancellations were related to visa overstays and alleged breaches of American law, including offences such as assault, DUI, and burglary.
In addition, an estimated 200–300 visas were revoked under the Immigration and Nationality Act over suspected links to terrorism, which bars entry to individuals considered to have engaged in or likely to engage in terrorist activities.
The revocations are part of the administration’s wider strategy to enforce stricter immigration measures and reshape higher education policies.
Students on legal visas who are not U.S. citizens but have participated in pro-Palestinian protests—such as staging campus encampments or voicing support for Palestine—are also reported to be under close watch.
