Parmjeet Kaur Sidhu has formally assumed charge as the Head of the Department of Punjabi at Panjab University, Chandigarh, on April 30, 2026, for a term of three years. The appointment was made under the orders of Vice Chancellor Prof. Renu Vig.
An Associate Professor in the School of Punjabi Studies, Dr. Sidhu took over the position in the presence of serving and retired faculty members from the Languages Faculty. The occasion was marked by warm congratulations and best wishes extended by colleagues and former teachers of the department.
Expressing her gratitude, Dr. Sidhu thanked the Vice Chancellor for entrusting her with this responsibility and acknowledged the support of her peers. She affirmed her commitment to carrying out her duties with dedication and sincerity, while preserving and advancing the rich legacy of the department. Emphasizing a collaborative approach, she stated that she looks forward to working closely with her colleagues—many of whom have also been her mentors—to further strengthen the department’s academic profile and contribute to the growth of Punjabi studies.
With over 17 years of teaching experience, Dr. Sidhu has made significant contributions to the field as an author, editor, and translator. She has published extensively in reputed journals, guided several Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars, and completed a UGC Major Research Project.
Her academic excellence has been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the Bibi Jagir Kaur Sandhu Mahila Puraskar (2021) conferred by the Government of Haryana, the International Education Excellence Award (UK), the Dr. Ambedkar Sahitya Shree National Award, and the Haryana Punjabi Sahit Akademi Award for her acclaimed critical work.
Dr. Sidhu brings valuable administrative experience, having previously served as the Head of the Punjabi Department at Kurukshetra University. In her new role, she will oversee the academic and administrative functioning of the department.
