AAP announces Mohinder Bhagat as candidate for Jalandhar West by-poll
Jalandhar: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its candidate for Jalandhar West Assembly by-election. The party has declared Mohinder Bhagat, son of former minister Chunni Lal Bhagat, as its candidate.
On Monday, the party made a formal announcement of this through its X account. Mohinder Bhagat left BJP and joined the Aam Aadmi Party during the 2023 Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election.
In Punjab Assembly Elections 2022, he contested from Jalandhar West seat on a BJP ticket in which he got about 37,000 votes. He was the general secretary of Punjab BJP’s SC Morcha from 1997 to 1999.
He has also been the state vice-president of BJP Punjab. He was the chairman of the Punjab Medium Industry Board from 2007 to 2011 during the Akali-BJP government. His candidature will definitely strengthen the Aam Aadmi Party.
This seat has fallen vacant due to former Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sheetal Angural leaving the party. Sheetal Angural is currently in the BJP. Voting for the by-election on this seat is to be held on July 10. The last date for filing nominations is June 21.
After being declared the candidate by the party, Mohinder Bhagat thanked AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and said that he will fulfill the responsibility given to him.
He said that there are many challenges in this election because people’s thinking in assembly elections is different than in Lok Sabha elections.
He said that at present there is a government of Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab and if its MLA is there then people’s work will be done easily.He said that if anyone can work for the people of Jalandhar then only an MLA of Aam Aadmi Party can do it.
The people of Jalandhar West know me very well because I have done a lot of work here. Therefore, I am confident that we will win this election with a huge majority.
