Yamuna crosses danger mark in Delhi, flood risk rises
New Delhi, August 18, 2025: Flood concerns mounted in the national capital today as the Yamuna River crossed the danger mark amid heavy rainfall. At 2 PM, the water level was recorded at 205.36 meters, slightly above the danger threshold of 205.33 meters.
The surge is linked to relentless rain in upstream areas and the release of water from the Hathnikund Barrage, where all 18 gates have been opened. Rising levels in the Bhakra and Pong dams are also contributing to the situation.
Delhi authorities and disaster management teams have been placed on high alert, with evacuation plans underway for residents in low-lying areas.
