‘Parali Protection Force’ formed to curb stubble burning

Kapurthala (Punjab: With an aim to curb the incidents of stubble burning in Kapurthala “ Parali  Protrction Force “ has been formed in Kapurthala district to prevent incidents of stubble burning during the upcoming season.
Its overall supervision will be done by the concerned SDM and DSP, while Tehsildar, Agricultural Development Officer, SHO, representatives of Pollution Control Board Department, BDPO and representatives of Cooperative Society will be its members.
During a meeting held at DAC, here today regarding the arrangements to be made to prevent stubble burning, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said that the target has been set to collect 2 lakh MT of stubble in Kapurthala district, which can later be used in boilers as fuel.
Besides that Public places have already been identified by the Rural Development and Panchayat Department to store the stubble. He said that during the last season, the cases of stubble burning in Kapurthala district had come down from about one thousand to 300 and the target is to reduce them further during the coming season.
He ordered the SDMs and DSPs to visit 27 such villages where three or more incidents of fire had taken place during the last season and make people aware about the ill effects of stubble burning.
Deputy Commissioner also said that the number of cluster and nodal officers should be increased to implement the action plan more effectively at the ground level. Currently, 44 clusters and 200 nodal officers have been nominated.
He also clarified that at each subdivision level, officers of the Agriculture and Cooperation Department will be the nodal officers. Apart from this, the SDMs were instructed to address Sarpanches, Numbardars and other prominent persons and make them participate in the campaign against stubble burning.
On this occasion, SSP Kapurthala Mr. Gaurav Toora said that the police will deploy special teams for patrolling during the paddy harvesting season.
Education Department was also instructed to make the students of class X to XIII aware about the harm caused due to stubble burning.
