Punjab’s horticulture area expands to 5.21 lakh hectares
Chandigarh, July 7, 2026:
Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat on Tuesday said the area under horticulture in the state has expanded to 5.21 lakh hectares, attributing the growth to the farmer-friendly policies of the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led government aimed at enhancing farmers’ income and promoting crop diversification.
Bhagat said the state government is encouraging farmers to move beyond the traditional wheat-paddy cycle by adopting the cultivation of fruits, vegetables, flowers and other high-value horticultural crops, making farming more profitable and sustainable.
He said the Horticulture Department is supporting farmers through various government schemes by providing financial assistance, technical guidance, quality planting material and awareness about modern horticultural practices to improve productivity and profitability.
The Cabinet Minister added that departmental officers have been directed to ensure the timely and transparent implementation of all horticulture-related schemes so that eligible farmers receive their benefits without delay.
Appealing to farmers to take full advantage of the government’s horticulture initiatives, Bhagat urged them to contact their nearest Horticulture Office for information, technical guidance and assistance.
