Big Breaking: Congress is the only option in Punjab- Bhagel
CHANDIGARH, July 8, 2026:
Blowing the bugle for the battle ahead of the 2027 assembly elections, the AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab Bhupesh Bhagel today said that the Congress was “the only option” in Punjab and people were looking forward to it.
Presiding over a meeting of the District Congress Committee presidents from across the state, Bhagel expressed confidence that the party was full prepared for the battle ahead.
He said, people of Punjab were feeling completely disillusioned with the Aam Aadmi Party which had not only betrayed them badly, but had brought Punjab to the brink of bankruptcy and lawlessness.
He said, other opposition parties like the Akali Dal and the BJP were nowhere in the reckoning and people were looking forward only to the Congress. He said, this was the time to come up to the expectations of people of the state.
“There is complete unity of purpose and mission among the party leaders and workers and the purpose and the mission are to see the Congress back in the saddle in Punjab in the 2027 assembly elections”, he said, while adding that there was a lot of energy and enthusiasm among the party’s rank and file.
In a special message to the DCC presidents, he said that they held one of the most important and influential positions in the party, as they were the interface between the party and the common people. He assured them that they will be more empowered.
Bhagel began his five days tour of the state on Monday. He will be meeting senior leaders, office bearers and workers during these days.
Today, besides addressing the DCC presidents, he was also present when Sukhwinder Singh Danny and Dr Raj Kumar Verka took charge as the Working Presidents of the PCC. He also attended the ceremony of newly elected Punjab Youth Congress president Shuvam Devgan.
Earlier Bhagel held a meeting with the Congress Legislative Party leader Partap Singh Bajwa, Manifesto Committee Chairperson Dr Amar Singh, Election Management and Coordination Committee Vijay Inder Singla, former Speaker and senior leader Rana KP Singh, Co-Chairman of the Campaign Committee Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Co-Chairperson of Manifesto Committee Hardial Kambhoj, Co-Chairman Election Management Committee Kuljeet Nagra, Brahm Mohindra, Balbir Sidhu, Shamsher Dullo and others.
The Congress leaders assured Bhagel that the Congress’ rank and file was fully geared up for the 2027 battle and expressed confidence that the party will get a landslide victory in the elections.
Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, PCC general secretary organisation Capt Sandeep Sandhu, were also present.
