Panjab University continues work on Trilingual AI-ML Glossary
Chandigarh, July 20, 2026:
The second phase of the Expert Advisory Committee (EAC) meeting for the preparation of a trilingual (English-Hindi-Punjabi) glossary on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) commenced today at Panjab University. The six-day meeting, being held from July 20 to 25, 2026, is organised by the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology (CSTT), Ministry of Education, Government of India, and hosted by the School of Punjabi Studies, Panjab University. It follows the first phase of deliberations conducted from May 5 to 9, 2026.
Welcoming the members of the Expert Advisory Committee and invited experts, Dr. Parmjeet Sidhu, Chairperson, School of Punjabi Studies, expressed gratitude to CSTT for entrusting Panjab University with the nationally significant project. She said the development of technical terminology in Punjabi would strengthen the language’s ability to meet the demands of emerging technologies and promote multilingual education in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Prof. Sunil K. Singh, Convener of the Expert Advisory Committee, said the glossary would facilitate teaching, learning, translation and dissemination of technical knowledge in regional languages, thereby making advanced scientific education accessible to a wider section of society.
Prof. Savita, Director, Research and Development, Panjab University and an expert member of the EAC, emphasised the growing role of Artificial Intelligence in higher education, research and innovation. She said standardised multilingual terminology is essential for developing inclusive digital resources, enabling AI-based language technologies and strengthening Punjabi’s presence in the digital ecosystem.
Representing CSTT, Deepak Kumar, Assistant Director, highlighted the Commission’s ongoing efforts to develop and standardise scientific and technical terminology in Indian languages. He said the AI-ML glossary is a significant initiative towards making advanced technological knowledge more accessible through Indian languages.
The meeting has brought together academicians, language experts and specialists in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Computer Science from across the country. Besides Dr. Sidhu from the Department of Punjabi, the department’s senior professors, Prof. Uma Sethi and Prof. Yograj Angrish, are also taking part in the meeting as experts.During the six-day deliberations, the Expert Advisory Committee will complete the English-Hindi-Punjabi terminology related to AI and ML, contributing to the growth of scientific knowledge in Indian languages and promoting multilingual technical education.The glossary comprises a total of 4,500 terms.
