Announcement of a Massive Protest March on May 9 in Dhuri, the Chief Minister’s City, by Aided School Teachers and Employees of Punjab

Teachers Forced into Massive Protest March and Demonstration Due to Non-Release of Salaries and PPOs for Several Months

Chandigarh, 6 May 2026-

(International Writer and Educationist) An important notice has been issued to the Chief Minister of Punjab, Shri Bhagwant Singh Mann, by the Punjab State Aided School Teachers and Other Employees Union Punjab-1967, under the leadership of State President Gurmeet Singh Madnipur and General Secretary Sharanjit Singh Kadimajra. The union has decided to hold a massive protest demonstration and protest march on May 9, 2026, in Dhuri, the constituency of the Chief Minister, against the negative attitude of the government and pending demands.

Union leaders stated with great regret that these aided schools, running since before independence, were brought under the Grant-in-Aid scheme on the Delhi pattern in the year 1967. The Aam Aadmi Party had promised during the elections that aided staff would be provided facilities equal to government employees, but today the situation is such that in many districts, the salary grant has not been released for the past 11 months. Across Punjab, the grant from January to March 2026 is pending, making it difficult for the hearths (stoves) to burn in the homes of the employees.

Main Demands and Primary Reasons for Protest…

The grant from January 2026 to April 2026 should be released immediately. Simultaneously, the PPOs of all retired teachers and other employees should be issued immediately.

Government facilities should be provided to aided staff as per the election manifesto.

The lack of any action on the ‘demand letter written in blood’ sent by the union on 09-04-2026 is extremely disappointing.

In addition to the above matters, there is significant resentment among all teachers and other employees regarding the non-issuance of PPOs by the Education and Finance Departments, even after more than a year for pensioners. The result of strong resentment against departmental delays and corruption is manifesting in the form of this massive protest demonstration.

Union leaders, including Convener Gurmeet Singh Madnipur, General Secretary Sharanjit Singh Kadimajra, Abbit Masih (Jalandhar), Ashok Wadera (Ferozepur), and Hardeep Singh Dhindsa (Ropar), stated that if the government does not release their grants and find a meaningful solution before May 9, thousands of female staff and retired employees will be forced to take to the streets of Dhuri. The Punjab Government will be responsible for any consequences arising from this struggle.
